Construction Material Testing
Aqua Lab Construction Material Division offers Physical and mechanical analysis of wide range of materials used by the construction and its allied industry. The testings are carried out as per the International Standards and specifications as defined in NABL, ASTM, DIN, ISO etc. In certain cases, the tests can also be performed in accordance with the customer specified test methods or procedure.
The core services offered by the material Division includes testing of Cement, Sand, Aggregate, Fly Ash, Concrete, Asphalt, Steel & Steel products, Geosynthetics, Water, Soil, & Rock etc.
We also undertake concrete investigation works using destructive, semi-destructive and non-destructive techniques to evaluate an existing concrete building, which will alert the consultant and engineers regarding any significant features that could compromise the structural performance.
Cement
Cement as a binder, a substance that sets and hardens independently & can bind other material together such as steel, bricks, & many other likewise civil materials.
Test for cement performed here are:
Soil
There are different methods for testing the quality of sand at the construction site for concrete construction. The most different, which passes through the 4.75 mm IS strainer is known as the fine aggregate. The fine aggregate will typically consist of natural sand, crushed stone sand, crushed gravel sand stone dust or arable powder, fly ash, and broken brick (burnt clay).
It will be hard, durable, chemically inert, clean and free from sedimentary coatings, organic materials, etc. and will not contain any appreciable amount of clay shells or pellets and harmful impurities. The sum of the percentage of all harmful material shall not exceed 5%.
Aggregates
Aggregate is a term for any particulate material It includes gravel, crushed stone, sand, slag recycled concrete & geosynthetic aggregate. Aggregate make up to 60-80 % of concrete mix and provide compressive strength & bulk to concrete. Aggregate are divided into either ‘Coarse’ or ‘Fine’ depending up to size of particulates.
Tests on aggregate we provide are:
Concrete Testing
We conduct series of testing on hardened and fresh concrete e.g. compressive strength, durability, concrete cores, Chemical Analysis, Trial Mix Verification, Temperature Monitoring, Chemical Analysis etc. In addition, we have the facility for testing of masonry blocks, paving blocks.
Fresh Concrete Test:
Providing Services in lab & on site too
Concrete Investigation
We have the facility to conduct in depth studies of structural investigation and feel productive to declare that we are construction Doctors, Our Team has more than 50 certification in concrete studies and we have most advanced instrument e.g. Pundit Live, Concrete Scanners, GPR, 3D Laser Scanner, UPVC, Rebound Hammer, Concrete Resistivity Meter etc.
Our Experts have conducted various specialized investigation in various parts of India, always we suggest our Clients to do renovation work if cracks exert in & on the structure, from there itself problem like Carbonation, rusting to Corrosion phase & So result reaches to Spalling & Corrosion.
Steel
Steel is an alloy of iron, carbon and other elements. Depending on its chemical composition, it is classified as mild steel, medium carbon steel, high carbon steel, low alloy steel or high alloy steel.
As implied by its name, structural steel is a category of steel used in the construction industry. Structural steel shapes and properties are regulated by standards such as those from the BIS.
Most structural steel shapes are elongated beams, with a specific cross section. The most common shape is the I-beam, which is very stiff with respect to the cross-sectional area. Therefore, it can support high loads without deformations Aqua lab has most advanced UTM having capacity of 1200kN. The purpose was to ensure that there should not be any milling or reduction of diameter as that practices may ultimately impact on the ultimate tensile strength as well as elongation of steel. Our machine is capable for testing of bolts, nuts, PT strands also.
We have recently included our OES for chemical analysis of steel which is accurate, precise and prompt to have composition of steel.
Test necessary on Steel:
Brick
Various types of tests on bricks are conducted to check the qualities of bricks for construction purposes. Tests on bricks are conducted at construction site as well as in laboratory. Bricks are oldest and important construction materials because of their durability, reliability, strength and low cost. To produce good quality of structure, good quality materials are required. To decide the quality of the materials some tests are to be conducted on bricks. The tests which are required to find the suitability of bricks for construction purposes are discussed below.
Wood
It is useful for evaluating plywood of clear, straight-grained veneers, and determining the effect of chemical or preservative treatments, construction, principal direction with respect to direction of stress, and other variables that are expected to uniformly influence the panel.
Chemical
Our chemical testing lab provides all types of Wet chemical and Spectro analysis which base on following test facilities.
Instruments Facilities:
Tiles
We do Testing & Evaluation of Designer Tiles, Cool Roof Tiles, Paver Blocks, Ceramic Tiles, Granites, Marbles, Sand Stone & Slates. We perform Slip/Skid resistance testing which is the science of measuring the coefficient of friction of flooring surfaces both at laboratory and at client's site.
1. Silica Tiles/Designer Tiles/Parking Tiles/Cool Roof Tiles (as per IS:1237/IS:13801 /ASTM:C-1549/ASTM:C- 1371/ASTM:E-1980)
2. Paver Blocks (as per IS: 15658)
3. Vitrified/Ceramic Tiles(as per IS:15622/IS:13630/IS:4457/ASTM:E303/ AS:4586)
4. Granites/Marbles/Sandstones/Slates (as per ASTM:615/IS:1121/IS:1130/IS:1706)
Green Building Testing
Strongly believing in energy conservation for next generation, Aqua Lab has taken various initiatives and achieved the milestone of first accredited lab for U value of Concrete Products. In addition we have the facility for Air Leakage and water testing.
Why test?
Apart from the above mentioned, the laboratory is fully equipped to provide specialized services Viz. Continuous monitoring of the temperature for concrete, Pull Off and Pull Out Tests, Tile Testing, Epoxy Tests, Manhole load tests, Fresh Concrete tests etc.
